Where does HopeWalks begin?
HopeWalks begins and ends at the East Entrance of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, 2014 Washington Street, Newton, MA. Check-in will take place in the parking lot next to the East Entrance.
How long is HopeWalks and what is the route?
HopeWalks is a 3.5 mile neighborhood walk. Please note that we have changed our route for 2013. Click here for a printable route map.
Will there be drinking water available along the walk route?
There will be several water stations along the walk route. There will also be bottled water available in the check-in area.
How do I get to Newton-Wellesley Hospital?
Where can I park?
Free parking for HopeWalks participants will be available at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Please enter at the East Entrance (Emergency Department entrance) and follow the signs / attendants as directed. We strongly encourage you to carpool or use the MBTA Green Line Woodland T stop.
Who can participate in HopeWalks?
Walkers of all ages are encouraged to participate in HopeWalks!
What if I am not available to participate in HopeWalks that day?
You can still register to participate in HopeWalks in spirit without being present on walk day. You can join a team and create a personal fundraising page. You are also eligible to pick up a HopeWalks t-shirt before or after the event (while supplies last).
What does the money raised for HopeWalks benefit?
Proceeds raised by HopeWalks benefit the Integrative Support Services offered at the Vernon Cancer Center. These life-enhancing patient services seek to help cancer patients live life as normally as possible. They include a Patient Navigator, nutritional support, genetic counseling, the Pappas PACT (Parenting At a Challenging Time) Program, social/psychological services, therapeutic mind-body programs, and educational/support workshops. All donations directly support the Vernon Cancer Center. Registration Fees cover HopeWalks' operating expenses.
How can I donate to HopeWalks?
How do I register for HopeWalks?
Past HopeWalks participants should login to register. After logging in, you will be brought to the registration page where you can edit/confirm your information. If you have forgotten your password, click the "forgotten password" link on the login page.
If you have not participated in any HopeWalks, the easiest way to register is by clicking here to register online and create your personalized donation page. You can also download a paper registration form and mail it to Newton-Wellesley Hospital Charitable Foundation, HopeWalks, 2014 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02462 by September 23, 2013.
Can I join a team if I have already registered as an individual walker?
Yes, to join a team once you have already registered as an individual walker, please contact (617) 243-5915 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Is there a registration fee to participate in HopeWalks?
The online registration fee is $25 per walker. For those who register by paper or on the day of the event, the registration fee is $35. Registration fees do not count toward fundraising goals. Children 10 and under are free. Please note that registration fees are non-refundable and cover the cost of the event. All donations you raise for HopeWalks will directly benefit the Vernon Cancer Center.
Is there a minimum amount I must raise or donate to participate in HopeWalks?
As HopeWalks is a fundraiser, it is recommended that walkers raise a minimum of $100 to support the Vernon Cancer Center. All walkers who raise $500+ are considered "Super" walkers, and those who raise $1,000+ are considered "Power" walkers. Please remember that all donations to your effort will directly benefit the Vernon Cancer Center.
What will I receive for participating in HopeWalks?
To thank you for your efforts, the first 800 walkers to check-in will receive a 2013 HopeWalks t-shirt. Additional shirts will be available for registered walkers as supplies last. For those wishing to avoid lines on event day, early check-in and t-shirt pick-up will be available on Sept. 24th, Sept. 25th and Sept. 26th, from 11 am to 5 pm in the Allen-Riddle Building - 2nd Floor - Room 201.
How can I change my fundraising goal?
Login to your dashboard, and on your dashboard homepage, enter your new fundraising goal under "My Details." Click "Update." Please note that the minimum fundraising goal for HopeWalks is $100.
What awards will be given out on walk day?
Awards will be presented on walk day to the top three walkers and top three teams based on dollars raised as of September 29, 2013. Note: gifts made offline (not online via the website) are not guaranteed to be processed in time for the awards ceremony.
Are there tools or tips on the website to help me fundraise?
Can I bike or in-line skate at HopeWalks?
For the safety of all walkers, please leave bikes, in-line skates, scooters, and skateboards at home. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome.
Is my dog welcome at HopeWalks?
Yes, you may bring your well-mannered dog to HopeWalks. Please note that dogs must be leashed at all times, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dog.
Will there be refreshments or activities available after I complete the walk?
After the walk, there will be a BBQ and entertainment under the HopeWalks tent. There will also be special information booths and screenings available.
